Doosan Robotics announced on the 30th that it will sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Seoul City, LG Electronics, Hyundai Motor, Kia, and LS E-Link (E-Link) at Seoul City Hall to build a convenient electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure. The event will be attended by Seoul City’s Climate and Environment Headquarters Director, Lee Jang-gwon, and Doosan Robotics CEO Ryu Jeong-hoon, among other stakeholders.
The agreement aims to accelerate the adoption of electric vehicles by expanding EV chargers and advancing the distribution of chargers optimized for different needs, including fast charging and assistance for people with mobility challenges.
Under this agreement, Seoul City will provide candidate sites, lease land, and handle permits and other administrative support, while Doosan Robotics will supply the 'Electric Vehicle Automatic Charging Solution' by integrating collaborative robots with LG Electronics’ 100kW and 200kW fast EV chargers and will also develop and discover new related technologies.
The electric vehicle automatic charging solution uses a 3D vision camera attached to the collaborative robot to identify the charging port of the electric vehicle, then the robot connects the charging cable to the port and starts charging. After charging is completed, the charger is detached from the port and automatically returned to its original position.
Generally, fast-charging systems for electric vehicles are difficult to handle due to the larger and heavier cables compared to slow charging. The electric vehicle automatic charging solution can improve charging convenience for people with mobility challenges, including women, the elderly, and people with disabilities.
Doosan Robotics and LG Electronics will supply the first electric vehicle automatic charging solution to the Mapo Silver Care Center and plan to gradually install this solution at 10 sites designated by Seoul City, including community centers and welfare facilities, by 2026.
Doosan Robotics CEO Ryu Jeong-hoon said, 'This MOU with Seoul City is expected to be a step forward in expanding the business after the pilot operation between Doosan Robotics and LG Electronics. We will actively supply the electric vehicle automatic charging solution in line with Seoul City’s charging station distribution policy, improving citizens’ convenience in transportation
